Maria Phillips - Metalsmithing and Jewelry lecture

The Hatton Gallery at CSU is hosting an exhibition of emerging metalsmithing and jewelry artists, titled "to be (determined): an exhibition of the first five." Juried by Sarah Turner and Maria Phillips, the exhibition showcases a broad range of jewelry and objects that not only reflect tendencies and ideas that challenge tradition, but represents the growing range of diversity within the field of metalsmithing and jewelry as well.

Juror Maria Phillips will be visiting CSU to lecture on her own artwork; she will also be giving an informal and interactive gallery talk to discuss the works included in the exhibition Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. at the Clara Hatton Gallery, Visual Arts Building.

Maria Phillips received her MFA from the University of Seattle, WA. She has been a Visiting Lecturer in the Metalsmithing and Jewelry programs at the University of Washington, the Cranbrook Academy of Art, and the Gerritt Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, Holland. Her artwork has been widely exhibited nationally and internationally. Recent exhibitions include such venues as SOFA: New York, the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, MA, the Tacoma Art Museum in Tacoma, WA, the National Ornamental Metal Museum in Memphis, TN and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Her work is published in Metalsmith magazine and American Craft magazine.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
