“Women and Children’s Health in Southern Sudan” ------------------------------ On Wednesday, Nov. 4 at noon in room 214-16 Lory Student Center, the Kathryn T. Bohanon Women at Noon Program will feature Dr. Rhonda Parmley, a psychotherapist in Fort Collins, and Kuier Atem from Denver who will speak on “Women and Children’s Health in Southern Sudan.” Sudan: The challenge of inequitable distribution of resources Sudan, the largest country in Africa, is the home of the most diverse population on this continent, with over 99 languages spoken there. Sudan faces the challenge of having its country’s resources inequitably distributed, leaving those in agricultural communities, especially in the south, without access to basic services, such as potable water, food, and health care. Problems of disease, malnutrition, poor prenatal and post-natal care Diseases such as malaria, cholera and malnutrition are rampant, prenatal and post-natal care are almost non-existent, and international coordination of assistance from government and non-government organizations is challenging.
